What do you do with a mortar?
A mortar and pestle is used to grind and mix herbs in the Greek kitchen. It is used to prepare our marinades, sauces and soups. Olive wood is the perfect material for this kitchen utensil, because it is extremely strong.

How to prepare the mortar for use?

When the rice has become white powder, rinse the tool under lukewarm water. - Dry the mortar and pestle thoroughly. - Now add some dry coconut or peanuts and continue turning and scraping until there is a complete layer of coconut or peanuts. Give it a few hours, the oil of the coconut or peanut will be absorbed in the Grinder.- After the oil is absorbed, rinse this Kitchen Aid under lukewarm water and dry it well. We can make it very difficult, but actually it is very easy! The very best care for the olive wood products in your kitchen is to massage them regularly with olive oil!
How does it work?
Make sure the product is clean and dry. Take a cloth and put a little olive oil on the cloth. Rub the olive oil into the wood. Let it soak in overnight. Then use it as usual. Regularly treating your olive wood kitchen utensils with olive oil will provide a protective layer. This will reduce the chance of discolouration and prevent the wood from retaining odours.
How often should I care for my wooden kitchenware?
It depends on how often you use your olive wood kitchenware. If your chopping board is brought out, used and washed daily, it could use a weekly olive oil treatment. If you have one of our unique serving boards, for example, and it is brought out once in a while, then rubbing it with olive oil once a month is sufficient.
Can olive wood go into the dishwasher?
Our advice, do NOT put olive wood in the dishwasher! The life span of your kitchen utensils will be shortened immensely and the wood will not become more beautiful. Actually, it is wise to keep any kind of wood out of the dishwasher. Wooden kitchen utensils are not resistant to the heat they have to withstand in the dishwasher. In addition to the quality deteriorating drastically, the olive wood will turn white. Please don't do it!
